# Who can verify our plant emissions for the UK CBAM?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/uk-cbam-who-can-verify-indian-plant

A verifier accredited for UK CBAM by an accreditation body that is a full member of the Global Accreditation Cooperation, to ISO/IEC 17029 and ISO 14065, and for the right activity group. A verifier accredited only for fertiliser plants cannot verify an iron and steel plant.

## What the verifier needs

- Accreditation by an eligible accreditation body for CBAM.
- Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17029:2019 and ISO 14065:2020.
- The right scope. HMRC's example: a verifier accredited for urea and mixed fertilisers is not automatically eligible to verify iron and steel.
- Independence from your plant and impartiality during the work.

## What makes an accreditation body eligible

- Full membership of the Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated.
- Compliance with ISO/IEC 17011, and peer evaluation for accrediting to ISO/IEC 17029 and ISO 14065.
- It may accredit verifiers in another country only where that country has no eligible body, or its eligible body does not accredit for CBAM.
- It must publish, in English, the list of verifiers it has accredited for CBAM with their certificates.

## How long accreditation lasts

Accreditation bodies carry out annual surveillance of each verifier and a full reassessment at least every 5 years. They can suspend or withdraw accreditation for false or concealed information. Before you sign, ask the verifier for its UK CBAM accreditation certificate and check its scope covers your product group.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible prepares the records a verifier works from: invoices read into dated entries per site, with the original file kept, carried into products. We build the figure from your records and check every figure in-house; for the UK it must then be verified by a verifier accredited for UK CBAM. Have your own verifier? Send it to them.
