# How does a Ukrainian merchant pig iron exporter build its CBAM figure?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/ukraine-pig-iron-exporter-cbam-figure

Pig iron is a CBAM good. Count the blast furnace's direct emissions by carbon mass balance, including coke ovens and sinter plants on site, and add bought coke or pellets as precursors where listed. Divide by tonnes of pig iron sold.

## Mass balance

1. Carbon in coke, coal injection and natural gas fed.
2. Minus carbon leaving in pig iron, slag and sold gas.
3. Times 44/12 for CO2.

## Precursors

Pellets and sinter are listed; bought coke is not a CBAM good but its carbon enters your balance when burnt. Ask pellet suppliers for figures.

## Records in hard times

Plants that ran intermittently should report by period actually operated and say so. Verifiers check the production figure as closely as the fuel.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps each site's fuel, power and production records together, so the embedded emissions you send an EU importer trace back to dated documents.
