# How do I calculate the carbon footprint of vermicelli per kg?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/vermicelli-carbon-footprint-per-kg

Add the wheat semolina or flour per kg with the mill's figure, then mixing, extrusion, drying and roasting energy. Divide the unit's fuel and electricity by kg packed and add packing.

## Ingredients

- Semolina or refined flour by weight.
- Water.
- Oil if pre-roasted.

## Process

- Mixing and extrusion presses.
- Drying chambers, often heated by steam or gas.
- Roasting, cutting and packing.

## Per kg

Report per kg of vermicelli. Drying is often the largest energy use in the plant.

## Worked example: vermicelli unit per kg (one month)

- Electricity: 25,000 kWh x 0.710 = 17,750 kg CO2
- PNG: 5,000 SCM x 2.05 = 10,250 kg CO2
- Kg dispatched: 250,000
- Plant total: 28,000 / 250,000 = 0.112 kg CO2 per kg
- Add semolina and packing for the full figure

Inputs are illustrative; use your own bills and production records.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the plant's electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and fuel invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, the plant-level input to a per-unit figure. Bought-in materials go to the supplier evidence trail; product reports are self-declared drafts.
