# Verra retired the methodology version we registered under. Do we lose our credits?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/verra-methodology-version-retired-mid-crediting-period

Not automatically. The version must be active only on the date you submit certain requests: registration, crediting period renewal, requantification, or a verification with baseline reassessment. Otherwise you may keep using it for the rest of the crediting or baseline period, whichever is shorter, unless Verra's website says otherwise.

## When the version must be active

The version of the methodology, module or tool you apply must be active on the day the request goes to Verra for:

- Registration.
- A verification approval that includes a baseline reassessment, or a methodology change through a project description deviation.
- Crediting period renewal.
- Requantification.

## When an older version can keep running

Outside those requests you may keep applying the version for the remainder of the crediting period or the baseline reassessment period, whichever is shorter. The exception: Verra can publish extra requirements or restrictions for inactive versions on that document's webpage.

## Where to check

- Verra publishes the list of active methodologies, modules and tools.
- The planned inactivation date of a version is published on its own webpage, ahead of the date.
- Check the page for your version and any module or tool it uses before every request.

## Moving to a new version on your own terms

You may switch to a new version of your methodology and revise the project description at any point in the crediting or baseline period.

## Example: a version inactivated on 1 January 2028

- March 2028, verification request with no baseline reassessment: the old version can continue, unless the webpage sets restrictions
- Crediting period renewal request in 2028: the version applied must be active on the day you submit, and this one is not
- Verification request that includes a baseline reassessment: the same test applies, and this version fails it

Dates and sequence are an example. Always check your version's webpage.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps your fuel and electricity records dated and tied to their source documents from the first invoice, so the same records can be used whichever methodology version you apply. It does not register projects or issue credits; Verra and your validation and verification body do.
