# What is a carbon intelligence platform?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/what-is-a-carbon-intelligence-platform

A carbon intelligence platform turns a business’s own activity data into emission figures it can act on and defend. Senseible does this from bills and invoices: it reads each line, applies a published emission factor with its source, verifies the record and prepares it for buyers, lenders and reports.

The difference from a spreadsheet or a one-off audit is traceability: every number links back to the document it came from, and each document is fingerprinted so it cannot be counted twice. The same record can then answer a buyer’s Scope 3 request, a CBAM data request or a lender’s question without being rebuilt.

For enterprises, the same approach gives supplier-level evidence for Scope 3, with each supplier’s figure tied to its invoices.
