# How does a Yamunanagar plywood unit count the resin it uses in Scope 3?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/yamunanagar-plywood-resin-scope-3

Urea formaldehyde and phenolic resins are made from fossil feedstocks, so they carry a real upstream footprint. Multiply kilograms of resin bought by a per kg factor from the supplier or a database, and keep it separate from timber, which is mostly biogenic carbon.

## Records

- Resin purchase invoices in kg, by type.
- Urea or formaldehyde bought if you cook resin yourself.
- Veneer and timber purchases in cubic metres.

## If you make resin on site

Count the boiler fuel and power for cooking in your own Scope 1 and 2, and the urea and methanol or formaldehyde you buy in Scope 3.

## For buyers

Furniture makers and EU importers ask for footprint per cubic metre. Resin, hot press steam and power usually decide the difference between units.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible turns supplier invoices into a Scope 3 record with the supplier, quantity and factor behind every figure, so you can see which supplier data is still missing.
