# How does a ferrochrome smelter in Zimbabwe work out its CBAM figure?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/zimbabwe-ferrochrome-exporter-cbam-figure

High-carbon ferrochrome (CN 7202 41) is a CBAM good. Its figure counts direct emissions from coke, coal and electrode carbon by mass balance. Electricity is not charged for iron and steel goods, but keep the records, because buyers' footprints include it.

## Mass balance

- Carbon in coke, coal, anthracite and electrode paste.
- Carbon left in ferrochrome, slag and dust.
- Net carbon times 44/12 gives CO2.

## Not counted in CBAM

- Grid or captive electricity for the furnaces.

## Data

Reductant invoices, lab analysis and monthly production by grade.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, power and production records into dated, fingerprinted installation records, the starting point for the actual emissions your EU importer asks for.
