# ESG Jobs in Bangalore: Roles, Employers and Pay

Bengaluru did not set out to become a place where companies count carbon. It became one the way it became everything else: global firms needed large teams that could work with data, follow a method precisely and keep up with rules written in Brussels, Washington and Mumbai at the same time. Sustainability reporting turned out to need exactly those people.

Search for ESG or sustainability roles in the city in October 2026 and the openings fall into a few clear groups. None of them is the job most people imagine when they hear "sustainability", which is campaigning or policy. Almost all of them are about evidence.

## Where the work is

**Reporting and data teams inside multinationals.** ABB, for example, has advertised a Bengaluru role for an HR sustainability and ESG data analyst on a hybrid basis. The job is to gather and validate workforce and ESG data and report it against ESRS, GRI, SASB and TCFD. This is the most common entry point: a global company needs one consistent dataset for disclosures in many countries, and the team that builds it sits in Bengaluru.

**Advisory and consulting.** EY has posted a Bengaluru consultant role in risk consulting focused on ESG, dated July 2026. Deloitte's Bengaluru postings ask for familiarity with ESG frameworks and sustainability reporting, and ERM and Quest Global list sustainability roles in the city. Here the work is client-facing: helping companies build their first inventory, prepare for assurance or answer a buyer's questionnaire.

**Investment and data services.** Apex Group has advertised for people to analyse sustainability data for investors and decision-makers. This is the investor side of the same evidence: turning what companies disclose into something a fund can compare.

**Lending.** Credit Saison India has advertised a Bengaluru role to embed its ESG and impact framework into its lending strategy. It is a small but telling group: lenders building green and sustainability-linked books need people who can judge whether a borrower's numbers are real.

These are point-in-time openings, not a census. They show the shape of demand, not its size.

## Why the demand exists

Three rules sit behind most of these jobs. India's BRSR requires the top 1,000 listed companies to report every year, and BRSR Core assurance phases in to all of them by FY 2026-27, with value-chain disclosures for the top 250 voluntary from FY 2025-26. The EU's CBAM moved to its definitive period on 1 January 2026, so importers of steel, aluminium, cement, fertiliser and hydrogen now declare embedded emissions and need data from their Indian suppliers. And European reporting standards such as ESRS reach Indian subsidiaries and suppliers of European groups. Each rule creates the same need: someone who can produce a number and show where it came from.

## What it pays

No public source publishes an ESG salary for Bengaluru specifically. Using the method in our [climate finance analyst salary guide](https://senseible.earth/climate-intelligence/climate-finance-analyst-salary-india), which counts a range only where at least two independent sources agree, the working estimate for tier-1 Indian cities is **about ₹6 to 8 lakh a year at entry level and about ₹14 to 21 lakh with three to seven years of experience**. Bengaluru sits in that tier. Roles in global data and advisory firms tend to pay toward the top of the range.

## How to get in

The candidates who stand out are not the ones with the most passion for the climate. They are the ones who can show they understand evidence:

- **Learn one method properly.** The GHG Protocol's Scope 1, 2 and 3 logic is the common language. Be able to explain why a diesel invoice is Scope 1 and a purchased-goods invoice is Scope 3.
- **Know one disclosure framework in depth.** For listed Indian companies that is BRSR; for European groups, ESRS; for investors, the frameworks named in the postings above.
- **Show a worked example.** A small, complete inventory built from real bills, with every factor and source written down, says more than a certificate. The [emission factors Senseible uses](https://senseible.earth/emission-factors) are a good place to start checking your arithmetic.
- **Read the rule, not the summary.** Interviewers notice when a candidate has read the CBAM regulation or a SEBI circular rather than a blog post about it.

## The longer view

The early wave of ESG work in India was about writing reports. The current wave is about proving the numbers in them, because assurance, lenders and EU importers now check. That shift favours people who are patient with documents and precise with units. Bengaluru has a great many of them, which is why the work keeps arriving.
