# Philippines BPO and IT-BPM: Net-Zero by 2030 Without Losing Margin

The Philippine BPO sector is one of the country's largest employers. US and EU clients increasingly ask about net-zero alignment. Most BPOs operate from leased office space: a distinctive constraint.

## The leased-office problem

Under GHG Protocol, electricity in a leased office is reported as Scope 2 if you have operational control. Many BPO leases give you operational control. So the entire AC + lighting + servers load is your responsibility.

## A practical net-zero path

### Year 1

Energy audit. Raise AC setpoints (for example, to 24°C). This reduces AC load at no cost.

### Year 2

Negotiate renewable supply under the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), working with your distribution utility (Meralco, VECO).

### Year 3

LED + sensor retrofit, usually with a short payback.

### Year 4–5

Migrate on-prem servers to cloud regions whose providers publish renewable energy data.

### Year 6+

Address Scope 3 commute via EV shuttles + hybrid policy.

Setpoint changes are one of the few measures that cut both emissions and electricity cost with no capex.

## Reporting to clients

US clients increasingly request CDP scores. EU clients ask for CSRD-aligned data. Many want Scope 1 + 2 in tCO2e per employee per year, so track that intensity and set your own reduction target.
