# Tamil Nadu MSME Decarbonisation: State Incentives, Grid, and Quick Wins

Tamil Nadu hosts a large share of India's MSMEs and a large share of its wind and solar capacity, and state incentives can stack with central schemes.

## The grid advantage

CEA publishes a single national grid emission factor (0.710 kgCO2/kWh in CO2 Baseline Database v21.0, FY 2024-25), so use it for location-based Scope 2 even though Tamil Nadu has a large share of renewable generation. For MSMEs in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Chennai, the state's renewable resources make captive and rooftop solar worth evaluating.

## State-specific schemes

State schemes for MSMEs (such as energy audit support, capital subsidies for solar, cluster infrastructure and wind energy banking) change often. Check the current terms with the state MSME and energy departments before you plan around them.

## Sector hot-spots

### Tirupur textiles

Thousands of MSME dyeing and knitting units. Track Scope 2 intensity per kg of fabric and compare it before and after rooftop solar or a green power purchase.

### Coimbatore engineering

Foundries and pumps. Diesel furnaces are the largest Scope 1 source. Switching to induction heating moves those emissions to Scope 2 and can cut them substantially, especially with renewable power.

### Chennai auto component

Tier 2/3 suppliers to global automakers increasingly receive OEM requests for emissions data. Many are not yet prepared.
