How do I calculate an amusement park's carbon footprint per visitor?
Rides, lighting and food courts run on electricity at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, with diesel generators for backup. Divide by visitors for a per visitor figure. Ride motors draw heavily at start up, so off peak days with few riders raise the per visitor number.
Records
- Electricity by ride zone where metered.
- Generator diesel.
- Visitor counts by day.
Food courts
LPG for kitchens is Scope 1; food bought in is Scope 3. Leased outlets on their own meters report their own power.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
