What is the carbon footprint of a beauty salon?

In a salon, electricity for ACs, hair dryers, straighteners and water heaters is usually the largest bill, counted at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh. Products bought, towels laundered and disposables are Scope 3. Divide the total by appointments for a figure per visit.

Quick wins

Set ACs at 24 degrees, switch to heat pump or solar water heating, and keep a laundry log to track towels washed.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
