How much oil does an efficient 150 kg oil-fired pit furnace save in brass melting?

About 35 litres per tonne of brass. BEE's Jamnagar report has an efficient 150 kg oil-fired pit furnace using 95 litres a tonne instead of 130, saving 10,500 litres a year on 300 t. That is about 30 t CO2 on furnace oil. Cost Rs 2.64 lakh, payback 0.92 years (2010).

What BEE found in the old furnaces

What the new furnace changes

Which oil is it?

The report calls the fuel furnace oil and prices it at Rs 28 a litre, but its specification sheet says diesel or LDO and its sums use a density of 0.88, nearer diesel than furnace oil. Check your own bills. On diesel the 10,500 litres are about 27.8 t CO2 (2.645 kg a litre). We have no factor for LDO, so do not count it as furnace oil without the supplier's data.

300 t of brass a year on furnace oil

Furnace oil at our factor of 2.97 kg CO2 a litre and grid at CEA's FY 2025-26 factor, both estimates.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads oil invoices and electricity bills into monthly records with CO2 for furnace oil, diesel and power, so oil per tonne of brass before and after the change is easy to show. The green loan check shows what a lender asks for on a furnace loan.
