What does BRSR ask about Extended Producer Responsibility for plastic and e-waste?
Principle 2 essential indicator 4 asks whether Extended Producer Responsibility applies to the company, and if so, whether its waste collection plan matches the EPR plan submitted to pollution control boards; if not, the steps taken. Indicator 3 asks how products are reclaimed at end of life.
The two questions
- Essential indicator 3: the processes to safely reclaim products for reuse, recycling and disposal at end of life, for plastics including packaging, e-waste, hazardous waste and other waste.
- Essential indicator 4: whether EPR applies; if yes, whether the waste collection plan is in line with the EPR plan submitted to pollution control boards; if not, steps taken to address it.
Leadership follow-ups
- Tonnes of reclaimed products and packaging reused, recycled and safely disposed, by plastics, e-waste, hazardous and other waste.
- Reclaimed products and packaging as a percentage of products sold, by category.
For packaging suppliers
Brand owners need packaging weights by material and recycled content to plan EPR collection. Supplying those on invoices or a yearly statement makes their BRSR answer and their EPR filing easier, and keeps you in the vendor list.
What Senseible does here
Senseible turns a supplier's electricity bills and fuel invoices into Scope 1 and 2 figures for the financial year, with each bill linked to its line, so a customer's questionnaire can be answered from records. Figures are self-declared.
