How do I calculate the carbon footprint of a carrom board?
Add the plywood playing surface, wooden frame, pockets and coins per board with supplier figures. Add cutting, sanding, lacquering and drying energy, then divide the unit's energy by boards made.
Materials
- Plywood or MDF playing surface.
- Hardwood frame.
- Lacquer, pockets, coins and striker.
Process
- Cutting and frame joinery.
- Sanding, printing and lacquering.
- Drying and packing.
Per board
Report per board by size and surface thickness, since the plywood is most of the material.
Worked example: carrom board unit per board (one month)
- Electricity: 3,000 kWh x 0.710 = 2,130 kg CO2
- Boards made: 3,000
- Plant total: 2,130 / 3,000 = 0.710 kg CO2 per board
- Add plywood, frame and lacquer for the full figure
Inputs are illustrative; use your own bills and production records.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads the plant's electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and fuel invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, the plant-level input to a per-unit figure. Bought-in materials go to the supplier evidence trail; product reports are self-declared drafts.
