Senseible

What is the carbon footprint of catering per plate?

The food itself is usually the largest part, especially dairy and meat. Cooking fuel is next: LPG at 2.98 kg CO2 per kg is the caterer's Scope 1. Add transport, disposables and leftovers sent as waste, then divide by plates served. The client counts the catering bill in Scope 3.

Per plate

For the client

Ask the caterer for the per-plate figure; otherwise use a spend-based estimate and label it.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
