Senseible

How is a cruise ship's CO2 per passenger night worked out?

Total the fuel burned on the voyage, multiply heavy fuel oil by about 3.13 t CO2 per tonne and marine gas oil by about 3.19, then divide by passenger nights. Some operators allocate by cabin area instead; say which method you used.

Inputs

Allocation

Crew and cargo are not passengers. If the ship carries cargo, split fuel by a stated rule before dividing.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
