Does ZED certification help an MSME get a cheaper loan?

Sometimes. ZED certification itself does not lower your interest rate by rule, but some banks and state schemes offer concessions to ZED certified units, and the certificate is credible evidence of energy and environment practices. Check your bank's current circular before counting on a rate cut.

What ZED is

The MSME Sustainable (ZED) Certification Scheme of the Ministry of MSME, relaunched in 2022, certifies units at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels on quality, energy, environment and safety parameters. The ministry subsidises the certification cost, most for micro units (80%), then small (60%) and medium (50%), with extra support for some categories of owners and regions.

Where a loan benefit can come from

What a green loan needs beyond ZED

A green loan under the Green Loan Principles funds a specific eligible project and asks for its expected benefit, such as energy saved and emissions avoided, and reporting after disbursement. ZED shows good practice at the unit; it does not by itself measure a project's savings. Pair it with energy bills before and after, and an estimate of savings.

A simple decision rule

Go for ZED if the subsidised fee is small for you and your buyers or state scheme value it. Do not go for it only for a rate cut unless your own bank confirms the concession in writing. For a green loan, energy and emissions evidence matters more than the certificate.

What Senseible does here

Senseible's green loan readiness check uses energy and emissions records built from your bills and fuel invoices, the same records that support ZED energy and environment parameters. Senseible does not issue or assess ZED certification.
