How should a Durban chemical plant calculate its Scope 1 and 2 emissions?

Scope 1 covers fuel in boilers and heaters, process emissions from reactions and any flaring or venting. Scope 2 is Eskom electricity at the grid factor for the year. South Africa also requires large emitters to report to the national authority, so align the inventory with those returns.

Scope 1

• Coal, gas or oil from invoices.
• Process CO2 from reactions, by mass balance.
• Flares and vents, from logs.
• Refrigerant top ups.

Scope 2

Eskom kWh times the grid factor for the year, with source and year. Steam bought from a neighbour counts here too.
