What does it take to reach Advanced or Leader on the EcoVadis carbon rating?

Advanced, scores 51 to 75, means a comprehensive GHG system that includes publicly reported, third-party verified emissions. Leader, 76 to 100, adds formal absolute Scope 1 and 2 reduction targets and evidence of a science-aligned target, such as SBTi validation. EcoVadis calls third-party verified documents indispensable for the higher levels.

The five levels and their score ranges

What Advanced asks you to show

  1. An inventory covering at least 95% of the assessed scope. EcoVadis does not credit emissions or energy data below that, so one plant left out can undo the rest.
  2. A verification statement from an independent verifier for those emissions. EcoVadis records whether data is verified; it does not verify it.
  3. Public reporting: the verified figures in a report anyone can read, such as a sustainability report on your website.
  4. Figures from your last two reporting cycles. Older reporting data no longer counts.

What Leader adds

Documents that get rejected

Every claim needs a document, and EcoVadis rejects documents that are undated, do not name your company, are incomplete, are scanned images rather than digital text, or are 30 MB or larger. An assessment takes at most 55 files, so combine where you can: one inventory report rather than twelve monthly sheets.

What Senseible does here

Senseible builds Scope 1 and 2 for every site from your bills, which is what the 95% coverage rule checks. Its Verified status means its rule checks passed against your bills, not independent verification, so for Advanced you still hire an independent verifier.
