Senseible

My buyer asked for product carbon footprints through EcoVadis. What do I send?

A footprint for the named product, in kg CO2e per unit, shared through EcoVadis's Carbon Product Data exchange, which follows the PACT framework. Sharing costs rated companies nothing extra. With no footprint yet, the EcoVadis PCF Calculator is free for invited or subscribed suppliers and gives a cradle-to-gate figure.

What the request means

Your buyer uses EcoVadis's Carbon Action Manager and has sent a Carbon Product Data request, usually with a message naming the product and saying whether it wants a product carbon footprint (PCF) or CBAM data. It will use your figure in its Scope 3 instead of an industry average.

EcoVadis files products under the UN Central Product Classification, five levels deep. Find your product's code before you start; detergents, for example, sit in subclass 35322.

Who pays for what

What goes into the figure

Check before you share

  1. The unit matches what the buyer buys: per piece, per kg or per metre.
  2. The year is stated, and the energy figures come from that year's bills.
  3. Your share-out rule for plant energy (by weight, by machine hours) is written down, so you can repeat it next year.
  4. Decide who else sees it. The buyer can ask for exclusive access, but sharing stays your decision.

Quantities are invented; factors are the ones Senseible applies. Material footprints come from your steel supplier or a database.

What Senseible does here

Senseible covers the plant-energy part of a product footprint: it reads your power bills and fuel invoices and turns them into monthly kg CO2, each line traceable to its bill, ready to share out across your output. Footprints for bought-in materials still have to come from your suppliers or a database.
