What emission factors should I use for purchased solvents like methanol, toluene and acetone?

Use your solvent supplier's cradle-to-gate product footprint per kg first. If they have none, use a named, licensed life cycle database value for the same solvent, and only then a labelled spend-based estimate. There is no free, authoritative set of Indian solvent factors, so name the source and year beside every figure.

The order of preference

  1. Supplier-specific: a cradle-to-gate figure in kg CO2e per kg for that solvent from that plant, with method and year. Chemical buyers often ask for it in the Together for Sustainability (TfS) PCF Guideline format.
  2. Database value for the same molecule: from a licensed life cycle database such as ecoinvent, matched to the region of production where possible. Record the dataset name, version and region.
  3. Spend-based estimate: rupees spent x a spend factor, after removing GST. Use it only to size the line and label its wider uncertainty.

What to record for an auditor

For each solvent: kg bought in the year from invoices, the factor, its source and year, and whether it is supplier-specific, database or spend-based. Report the share of Category 1 solvent emissions that rests on supplier data; buyers look for that share rising.

All three factors are placeholders to show the arithmetic, not published values. Replace each with your supplier's figure or a named database value.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads solvent invoices into the Scope 3 supplier evidence trail with supplier, quantity and value. Where only spend is available it provides a spend-based estimate, labelled as spend-based with wider uncertainty.
