What goes into the CBAM figure for urea and ammonium sulphate from a Gresik fertiliser complex?
Urea, ammonium sulphate and NPK are CBAM goods, and for fertilisers both direct and indirect emissions count. Include natural gas used as fuel and feedstock, process emissions, any nitric acid N2O, embedded emissions of ammonia precursors, and electricity used.
Direct emissions
- Gas for reforming and steam, as fuel and feedstock.
- N2O from any nitric acid unit, as CO2e.
- CO2 from sulphuric acid or other units if it arises.
Precursors
Ammonia, nitric acid and urea made on site are precursors of the final fertiliser. Their emissions are attributed to the product they go into, with any bought in from outside added at their supplier's figure.
Indirect emissions
Electricity consumed counts for fertilisers, using the grid factor or the power plant's figure where the rules allow.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads fuel, electricity and production documents into dated, fingerprinted installation records, the starting point for the actual emissions an EU importer asks for.
