How do I sell carbon credits in India once they are issued?

Issued credits sit in your registry account. On Verra you agree terms with a buyer, then either transfer the credits to the buyer's own registry account or retire them in the buyer's name. The registry record, not your invoice, is what the buyer is paying for, so it has to match what you promised.

What the registry does for you

Three ways a sale closes

  1. Transfer: the credits move from your account to the buyer's account, and the buyer retires them when it makes its claim.
  2. Retire on the buyer's behalf: you retire the credits in your account and name the buyer. Retirement is started by the account holder, and the account holder pays the retirement fee.
  3. Sell to a trader with its own account, who resells or retires them later. The trader takes on the search for an end buyer.

What a buyer checks before paying

If your units are CCTS compliance certificates

India's compliance market works differently. BEE's October 2026 draft trading procedure sends certificates through power exchanges in a closed auction with one clearing price per session, and bilateral deals are not allowed. It is a draft for comment, so check the final text before you plan a sale.

What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps the monitoring records and the verifier evidence pack tied to each batch, so when a buyer asks where a credit came from, the answer is already on file. Transfer and retirement happen in the registry.
