What energy efficiency projects will IREDA finance?

IREDA finances energy efficiency retrofits, whole-process changes, waste heat recovery for power, ESCO projects and turnkey efficient equipment, in sectors from steel and textiles to glass, ceramics and buildings. The minimum loan is ₹50 lakh, and a private project normally gets up to 70 percent of its cost.

Project types IREDA lists

Sectors it names

Iron and steel, fertilisers, textiles, cement, pulp and paper, aluminium, sugar, petrochemicals, glass and ceramics, refineries, domestic and commercial users, street lighting, demand side management schemes and buildings. A foundry, forging shop, ceramic kiln or textile processor sits inside this list.

How much of the project IREDA will fund

Help around the loan

IREDA points borrowers to BEE's grading of energy efficiency projects, with reimbursement of the grading fee, and lists securitisation under BEE's Partial Risk Guarantee Fund and SIDBI's Partial Risk Sharing Facility. Ask IREDA whether a facility is open for new projects before you count on it.

What makes the saving believable

An efficiency loan is repaid from the saving, so the appraisal turns on it. Give the lender the baseline from at least twelve months of bills and production, the saving the auditor or equipment supplier expects, and how you will measure it after commissioning: the same meter, the same units, energy per tonne. A grading from BEE adds an outside view of the same numbers.

Why the ₹50 lakh minimum decides the lender

To use IREDA, a project needs a cost of at least ₹71.4 lakh (₹50 lakh / 0.70). Smaller projects fit SIDBI's 4E loan or a bank loan better.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads twelve months of electricity bills and fuel invoices into monthly energy and CO2 records, the baseline an efficiency appraisal starts from, then compares later bills against it. The green loan readiness check shows what is still missing. Senseible does not lend or grade projects.
