How does a farmer or FPO join a regenerative farming carbon programme in India?
Through a developer or an FPO running a registered project, usually under Verra VM0042. Before signing, check that your practice change counts, that you can show at least three past years of records, and what the contract says about payment timing, data use and who owns the credits.
Check the practice change counts
- A new practice, stopping one, or a change in quantity of more than 5%, such as less fertiliser.
- Cropland or grassland on the start date, with no native vegetation cleared in the past 10 years.
- No expected lasting yield fall of more than 5%.
Bring at least three years of proof
- Receipts and invoices for fertiliser, seed, diesel and machine hire rank highest under VM0042.
- Farm logs, machine data or satellite images of the fields.
- Your signed statement, which counts if it matches similar fields nearby.
- Regional averages are the last resort, and still need your signature.
Read the contract for
- Who gets the right to the reductions. Verra requires the project to hold it, for example by contract with you.
- How and when you are paid, and what happens if verification cuts the volume.
- How long you must keep the practice. Baselines are reassessed every ten years.
- What data is collected about you and your fields, and who sees it.
- How to raise a complaint.
After you join
Your farm often becomes one instance in a grouped project. Under the measure and model approach, soil is sampled at the start and at least every five years.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads fertiliser, diesel and electricity invoices, the kind of documented evidence VM0042 ranks first for a farm's past practice, and its offline field app records each farmer's consent and plot boundary with no signal.
