Can kiln or cooler exhaust heat replace dryer fuel, and how do I count it?

Yes, ducting hot air from a kiln's cooling zone or exhaust to a dryer can replace some dryer fuel. Count the saving as lower fuel on the dryer's own bills or meter. Do not add a separate credit for the recovered heat; it is already inside the kiln's fuel.

Good matches

How to show the saving

  1. Measure dryer fuel per tonne for a few months before.
  2. Measure again after the duct is in service, at similar output.
  3. Multiply the fuel saved by its factor. Fan electricity added is Scope 2.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel invoices and electricity bills and applies IPCC 2006 factors and the CEA grid factor (0.710 kg CO2 per kWh), so you can compare Scope 1 and 2 before and after a change from the documents themselves.
