How do I calculate the carbon footprint of a monoblock pump?
Add the cast iron body and impeller, the stator copper and lamination steel, the shaft and bearings per pump with supplier figures. Add machining, winding, painting and testing energy, then divide the unit's energy by pumps passed.
Bought-in parts
- Cast iron pump casing, impeller and motor body.
- Copper winding wire and lamination steel.
- Shaft, bearings and seals.
Making
- Machining of castings.
- Stator winding, varnishing and assembly.
- Painting and performance testing on a test bed.
Per unit
Report per pump by rating in HP or kW. Testing draws real power, so include the test bed in the plant's electricity.
Worked example: monoblock pump unit per unit (one month)
- Electricity: 40,000 kWh x 0.710 = 28,400 kg CO2
- LPG: 1,000 kg x 2.98 = 2,980 kg CO2
- Units produced: 4,000
- Plant total: 31,380 / 4,000 = 7.845 kg CO2 per unit
- Add castings, copper and steel for the full figure
Inputs are illustrative; use your own bills and production records.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads the plant's electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and fuel invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, the plant-level input to a per-unit figure. Bought-in materials go to the supplier evidence trail; product reports are self-declared drafts.
