Can N2O abatement credits from a nitric acid or caprolactam plant get the CCP label?

Not on Verra under current methods. ICVCM's table rates AM0034, catalytic N2O reduction inside the ammonia burner of nitric acid plants, and AM0028, N2O destruction in caprolactam tail gas, as Very Unlikely To Meet the Core Carbon Principles. Neither has a CCP-Approved route today.

What the table says

What "Very Unlikely To Meet" means

ICVCM's Categories Working Group sorted credit categories into three kinds of assessment: internal, multistakeholder, and "very unlikely to meet", which were deprioritised in the schedule. It is a triage, not a Governing Board decision. But a CCP label needs a CCP-Approved methodology, so in practice there is no label for these credits today.

Why the abatement still pays off

N2O is 265 times CO2 over 100 years in the GWP values Verra uses, so a modest catalyst upgrade moves a plant's footprint a lot. That cut shows in the emissions you report for each tonne of acid or fertiliser, to buyers and, for nitric acid, under CBAM, whether or not any credit is sold.

Example: a secondary catalyst at a nitric acid plant

Tonnes are an example.

What Senseible does here

Senseible gives carbon credit eligibility signals and keeps plant energy and fuel records traceable to source documents for product footprints and CBAM data. It does not measure process N2O or label credits.
