Why does my bank want my own emissions figure, and how does it change its PCAF data quality score?

Your bank has to estimate the emissions of its loans, and the PCAF standard scores that estimate from 1 (best) to 5. Without your data it guesses from your sector and revenue, which scores 4 or 5. Your own figure from energy bills moves your loan to score 2, and verified emissions to score 1.

Why the bank is counting your emissions

Lenders measure financed emissions: their share of each borrower's emissions, usually the loan amount divided by the borrower's total equity and debt, times the borrower's emissions. Banks that report climate risk, or that have set targets for their loan book, need a number for every borrower. Most use the PCAF Global GHG Accounting and Reporting Standard to do it.

What it means for you

What regulators are asking of Indian lenders

The Reserve Bank of India issued a draft Disclosure framework on climate-related financial risks in February 2024, and in November 2025 it issued Climate Finance and Management of Climate Change Risks Directions for commercial banks. Check rbi.org.in for whether and from when your lender must disclose financed emissions. Banks that have started measuring already ask borrowers directly rather than relying on sector estimates.

What Senseible does here

Senseible produces your Scope 1 and 2 from fuel and electricity bills with the source files kept, which a lender would treat as reported data from your own energy use. Its Verified status means rule checks passed; it is not third-party verification.
