Which has a lower carbon footprint per pair, a PU sole or a rubber sole?

Compare weight times the material factor, from the PU system or rubber compound supplier, plus the moulding energy at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh. The answer depends on sole weight and each supplier's factor rather than on the material name.

What to compare

Durability

A sole that lasts longer can mean fewer pairs over time. Note expected life as context, but keep the per-pair figure to materials and making.

Asking suppliers

Ask each sole supplier for a per-kilogram figure with method and boundary, so the two numbers can be compared fairly.

Worked example: structure of the comparison (illustrative inputs)

Weights and kWh are illustrative; material factors must come from your suppliers.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
