How much electricity does a plastic pipe, sack or moulding unit use a year?

From TERI's Rajkot profile, a typical unit a year: pipes and fittings 336,351 kWh, polybags and sacks 218,600 kWh, household moulding 391,743 kWh plus some gas or LPG for ovens, roll strap 179,692 kWh. Per tonne that is roughly 340, 470, 550 and 470 kWh.

Per unit and per tonne

Why pipes come out lowest

A pipe line extrudes continuously at high throughput, so heater and motor losses are spread over many tonnes. Sacks add tape stretching, looms and lamination; moulding works in cycles, often on hydraulic machines, and roto-moulding adds a gas or LPG oven.

What to send a buyer

  1. kWh per tonne for the product line they buy, not the plant average. If lines share one meter, split by machine hours or connected load and say so.
  2. DG diesel and oven gas or LPG, if any.
  3. The polymer itself as a separate line: its footprint comes from the resin supplier and is usually larger than your processing.

CO2 per tonne by product (estimate)

Unit kWh, unit counts and output from TERI's Rajkot plastics profile; tonnes per unit are cluster output divided by units. Grid factor CEA FY 2025-26; oven fuel at IPCC 2006 factors.

What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps your electricity and fuel bills as the evidence behind each figure you send, in a Scope 3 supplier trail a buyer can check line by line.
