How does an alumina refinery at Renukoot count CO2 from its steam and calciners?
Count coal burnt for steam used in digestion and fuel burnt in calciners, from tonnes or kilolitres with heating value and carbon content, per tonne of alumina. Alumina is not a CBAM good, but it is the largest bought input in an aluminium buyer's full footprint.

- Caustic soda and lime bought in, upstream.
Inside one company
If the refinery feeds your own smelter, it is your Scope 1. Report it as its own line so the alumina figure can be checked.
For buyers
Smelters buying alumina put it in Scope 3, category 1. CBAM leaves it out.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads fuel, electricity and freight invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so each figure you send a buyer traces back to the documents behind it.
