What must a company publicly report to claim its Scope 3 inventory follows the GHG Protocol?

Section 11.1 of the Scope 3 Standard lists what must be public: a Scope 1 and 2 report, Scope 3 by category in CO2e without biogenic CO2 or offsets, what was included and excluded with reasons, base year details, biogenic CO2 separately, and for each category its data, methods and share from suppliers.

The required list

  1. A Scope 1 and 2 report that follows the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard.
  2. Total Scope 3, shown separately by category.
  3. For each category, emissions of CO2, methane, nitrous oxide, HFCs, PFCs and SF6 in tonnes CO2e, excluding biogenic CO2 and not reduced by any offsets or allowances bought or sold.
  4. The categories and activities included.
  5. The categories and activities excluded, each with its justification.
  6. Once set, the base year, why it was chosen, the recalculation policy, base year emissions by category, and context for any change that triggered a recalculation.
  7. For each category, biogenic CO2 reported separately.
  8. For each category, the types and sources of data, including activity data, emission factors and GWP values, and the quality of that data.
  9. For each category, the methods, allocation and assumptions used.
  10. For each category, the percentage of emissions calculated from supplier or other value chain data.

Where supplier answers land

The last three items are written per category, and they are where supplier data shows up in public. A supplier figure with its source bills, factor source and split basis lets the buyer fill all three without guessing. The supplier percentage rises with every such answer.

What Senseible does here

Senseible's GHG Protocol reports are self-declared drafts built from your uploaded records. Each line traces to its source document and factor, which supports the data and methods items for the Scope 1, 2 and supplier lines it holds.
