What is the carbon footprint of the stretch film on a pallet?
Weigh the film on a typical wrapped pallet, then multiply by a factor for LLDPE film from your supplier or a named database. Pre-stretched film and better wrapping machines use less film per pallet, which is the easiest cut.
How to calculate
- Grams of film per pallet, weighed.
- Times pallets wrapped in the year.
- Times the film factor, labelled with its source.
Which scope
Film you buy is Category 1. Film on pallets you ship to customers also ends up in their waste, Category 12.
Illustrative only
- Film: 250 g per pallet x 20,000 pallets = 5 t
- Factor: 2 kg CO2e per kg (illustrative)
- About 10 t CO2e a year
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
