How does urea from coal gasification at Talcher compare on CO2 with gas based urea?

Coal gasification makes ammonia from coal instead of natural gas, and coal carries far more carbon per unit of hydrogen. Expect a much higher figure per tonne of urea than gas based plants unless CO2 is captured and stored. Count it from coal invoices and carbon content, not a flat factor.

How to count it

  1. Coal fed to gasifiers and boilers, in tonnes, with carbon content.
  2. Subtract carbon leaving in ash or slag.
  3. CO2 used to make urea is still counted as emitted under CBAM.
  4. Add bought power.

Capture

CO2 captured and permanently stored lowers the figure. CO2 sold for another use generally does not.

For CBAM

Urea is a CBAM good, so any EU export would carry this figure. Most Indian urea serves the home market.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and freight invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so each figure you send a buyer traces back to the documents behind it.
