Is all the CO2 from burning tyre-derived fuel fossil?
No. Tyres contain natural rubber, which is biogenic, along with synthetic rubber and carbon black, which are fossil. Only the fossil share counts as Scope 1 CO2; the biogenic share is reported separately. Ask the supplier or a lab for the fossil carbon fraction rather than assuming one.
What to record
- Tonnes of tyre-derived fuel used.
- Calorific value and carbon content from lab tests.
- The fossil and biogenic split, with its source.
Under CBAM
For covered goods, the biomass share of a mixed fuel must be supported by evidence before it can be treated as zero rated.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads fuel invoices and electricity bills and applies IPCC 2006 factors and the CEA grid factor (0.710 kg CO2 per kWh), so you can compare Scope 1 and 2 before and after a change from the documents themselves.
