What are the UK CBAM default values for ferro-manganese and ferro-chrome?
HMRC's UK CBAM default for high-carbon ferro-manganese (7202 11) is 1.859 tCO2e per tonne and 6.149 for low-carbon ferro-manganese (7202 19 00). High-carbon ferro-chrome (7202 41) is 2.585, low-carbon ferro-chrome (7202 49) 3.157, and ferro-nickel 5.502.
Defaults
- 7202 11 20 and 7202 11 80: ferro-manganese above 2% carbon: 1.859 tCO2e per tonne.
- 7202 19 00: ferro-manganese at or below 2% carbon: 6.149.
- 7202 41 10 and 7202 41 90: ferro-chrome above 4% carbon: 2.585.
- 7202 49 10, 50 and 90: ferro-chrome at or below 4% carbon: 3.157.
- 7202 60 00: ferro-nickel: 5.502.
Power is left out for now
Ferro-alloy smelting is power-heavy, and the UK does not count electricity until at least 2029. The UK figure covers direct emissions such as those from reductants and other process carbon, plus any covered precursors.
Silico-manganese is different
Ferro-silico-manganese (7202 30) and ferro-silicon (7202 21) are excepted from UK CBAM.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads ore, coke, reductant and power invoices by month, so a smelter's direct figure can be set against 1.859 or 2.585. We build the figure from your records and check every figure in-house; for the UK it must then be verified by a verifier accredited for UK CBAM. Have your own verifier? Send it to them.
