Are cast iron castings covered by the UK CBAM?
Mostly not. In chapter 73, HMRC's UK CBAM list covers only headings 7301 to 7311, 7318 and 7326. Cast articles under heading 7325, such as manhole covers and many general castings, are not listed. Cast iron tubes (7303) and cast pipe fittings (7307) are covered.
In and out
- In: 7303 cast iron tubes and pipes; 7307 cast pipe fittings, with defaults from 3.571 to 4.182 tCO2e per tonne.
- In: 7326 other articles of iron or steel, for example 3.439 for 7326 90 98.
- Out: 7325 other cast articles of iron or steel, as the heading is not listed.
- Out: castings classified as machine or vehicle parts in chapters 84 and 87.
Check classification, not the process
Two castings made the same way can land in different headings. Agree the 8-digit code with your UK buyer and their customs broker before quoting.
Buyers still ask for numbers
A UK buyer outside CBAM may still need your casting footprint for its Scope 3 or a tender. Coke, power and fuel per tonne of good castings is the figure to build.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads coke, pig iron, scrap and power invoices into a per-tonne casting footprint for buyers, whether or not CBAM applies. We build the figure from your records and check every figure in-house; for the UK it must then be verified by a verifier accredited for UK CBAM. Have your own verifier? Send it to them.
