Buy carbon removal credits you can trace to a field
When a project keeps its record on Senseible, every tonne leads back to its plot, its kiln log and its lab test. See how long the carbon stays put and what the project recorded for the farm before you sign.
Trace one tonne back to the field
- Retired in your name. The registry serial is retired for your company, so nobody can sell it again.
- Issued by the registry. Issued only on tonnes the verifier confirmed.
- Checked by an accredited verifier. The whole chain, checked against the methodology.
- Spread inside the plot. A photo with place and time, inside the boundary the agent walked.
- Lab test: H:Corg 0.7 or less. Shows the carbon is in a stable form.
- Kiln at 450 °C or more. The sensor log for the whole burn.
- Straw collected, not burnt. Weighed at the farm, with the distance to the kiln.
How long your tonne stays put.
Drag through the years. Each pathway holds carbon for a different time, and your claim should say which.
- Biochar in soil (removal): About a century: 89 of every 100 tonnes of carbon remain after 100 years by the IPCC default for kilns above 600 °C, 80 for 450 to 600 °C.
- Trees among crops (removal): Held only while the trees are never felled or burnt. A buffer is kept back for losses.
- Crushed rock (removal): Locked into stable minerals for thousands of years.
- Deep underground (removal): Held in rock for thousands of years when the storage site is sound.
- Rice methane cut (reduction): Nothing is stored. The credit counts methane that never formed.
What the project did for the farm, as recorded.
Water, yield and farmer income show exactly as the project recorded them, with the record behind each. Anything not recorded says so. Nothing is filled in.
- Water: recorded by the project. Dated water tube readings and days irrigated, per plot.
- Yield: recorded by the project. Harvest weights per plot, season on season.
- Farmer income: recorded by the project. Payments to each farmer, recorded against their plot.
- Soil organic carbon: not recorded. No soil samples in this record.
These are the project's own figures unless the verifier's report covers them.
Your auditor's questions, already answered.
The audit-ready pack answers the questions your auditor will ask. Tap one to see the answer.
- Where did this tonne come from? Field: a boundary walked by the agent, with the spreading photo inside it.
- Was the biochar made right? Kiln log at 450 °C or more · Lab H:Corg 0.7 or less.
- What was subtracted before issuance? Emissions from collection, the kiln and transport, subtracted.
- Removal or reduction? Removal: biochar in soil.
- Who checked it? An accredited verifier, against Verra VM0044.
- Is it retired in our name? Registry serial, retired for your company.
Say what you bought. Nothing more.
Removal and reduction credits support different claims. Pick what you bought and the line you want to publish.
- "We removed carbon from the air." Removal: fits. Biochar holds carbon taken out of the air. Say how much, and for how long. Reduction: rewrite. A methane cut is a reduction. Say you paid for methane that never formed.
- "We paid for emissions that never happened." Removal: rewrite. You bought more than that. Call it a removal: carbon taken back and held. Reduction: fits. That is what a reduction credit counts.
- "Our own emissions went down." Removal: rewrite. Credits sit beside your inventory. Your Scope 1, 2 and 3 stay gross. Reduction: rewrite. Credits sit beside your inventory. Your Scope 1, 2 and 3 stay gross.
- "We balanced what we still emit at net zero." Removal: check first. Under an SBTi net zero target, only removals can do this. Check your target year and how long the carbon lasts. Reduction: rewrite. Under an SBTi net zero target, only removals can balance what is left.
Three steps before a tonne is yours.
- The record (built and checked by senseible): Field, kiln, lab and spreading, with every reading's time, place and source.
- The verifier (accredited and independent): An accredited verifier checks the record against Verra VM0044, Puro.earth or Verra VM0051.
- The registry (issues and retires): Every tonne gets its own serial, retired in your name so it is never sold twice.
Senseible's check comes first. It is not the accredited verification, and it never replaces it.

Straight answers
How do I buy carbon removal credits in India?
From a project developer, directly or through a marketplace, once a registry has issued the credits. Ask for the evidence behind each tonne: the field, the kiln log, the lab test and the verifier's report. On projects that keep their record on Senseible, you see all of it before you sign.
How do I check carbon credit quality?
Trace the tonne back to where it was made, check how long the carbon stays put, confirm whether it is a removal or a reduction, see that an accredited verifier checked it and that the registry serial is retired in your name. Ask what emissions were subtracted before issuance.
How long does biochar carbon last?
About a century, by the IPCC default: 89% of the carbon in biochar made above 600 °C remains after 100 years, and 80% for biochar made between 450 and 600 °C. Credits count only that 100-year share.
Are biochar carbon credits removals?
Yes. Biochar holds carbon that plants took from the air, in a solid form that stays in the soil. A rice methane cut is a reduction: nothing is stored, less methane goes up.
Who verifies the credits?
An accredited validation and verification body checks the project's record against its methodology, and the registry issues the credits. Senseible builds and checks the record before it gets there; it is not the accredited verifier.
Are the water, yield and income figures verified?
They show as recorded by the project, with the record behind each one. Unless the verifier's report covers them, treat them as the project's own figures. Nothing missing is filled in.
Can credits reduce my Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions?
No. Report credits beside your inventory, not inside it. Your Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions stay gross.
