How does an Ambur tannery count boiler and effluent plant emissions?
Boiler fuel burned on site is Scope 1: coal, wood or oil times its factor. Electricity for drums, the effluent plant and dryers is Scope 2 at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh. A shared effluent plant you pay for is Scope 3; your own plant's electricity stays in Scope 2.
Steps
Coal in kg x 2.44 kg CO2 per kg (IPCC default for other bituminous coal), or wood handled as biogenic.
Electricity kWh x 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh.
Charges from a common effluent plant: Scope 3, from its operator's figure.
Per unit of leather
Divide by square feet or kg finished, and say which you used.
Worked example: one month (illustrative inputs)
- Boiler coal: 15,000 kg x 2.44 = 36,600 kg CO2
- Electricity incl. own ETP: 20,000 kWh x 0.710 = 14,200 kg CO2
- Total: 36,600 + 14,200 = 50,800 kg CO2
Quantities are illustrative; use your coal invoices and electricity bills.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
