How much energy does the Balasore plastic cluster use, and what share is grid power?

84% of the energy, and more of the carbon. TERI's 2015 profile puts Balasore's 40 or so plastic units at 2,860 toe a year: 27.8 million kWh of grid power, 452 kL of diesel and 36 t of LPG. On FY 2025-26 factors that is about 20,000 t CO2, 93% of it from electricity.

Where the 2,860 toe come from

How the units are supplied

Most units have an LT connection of about 100 kVA; pipe and sack plants have HT connections of 400 kVA or more. Diesel runs DG sets in outages, which have become uncommon. A few non-woven sack plants fire thermic fluid heaters with oil.

Why power is 84% of the energy but 93% of the CO2

A kWh off the grid carries the coal burnt at the power station, so each toe of electricity brings about 7.9 t CO2 against about 2.8 t for a toe of diesel. Fewer diesel hours barely move your figure; fewer kWh per tonne do.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your electricity bills (units, tariff, sanctioned load) and DG diesel invoices into monthly records, so your carbon number per tonne comes from your own meter, not a cluster average.
