How does a textile processing unit in Balotra work out CO2 per metre?
Add fuel burnt in the boiler and thermic fluid heater, times its emission factor, and grid electricity at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh. Divide by metres processed in the same month. Dyeing and printing use most of the steam, so record steam or fuel by section if buyers ask by process.
Inputs
- Boiler fuel: coal, lignite, wood or PNG.
- Thermic fluid heater fuel for stenters.
- Grid electricity and DG diesel.
Records
Fuel purchase bills with quantities, electricity bills and the processing register in metres.
Wood and biomass
CO2 from wood is biogenic and reported separately; methane and nitrous oxide from burning it stay in Scope 1.
Worked example
- Coal: 60 t a month x 2.42 kg = 145.2 t CO2
- Electricity: 90,000 kWh x 0.710 kg = 63.9 t CO2
- Processed: 1,500,000 metres, so about 0.14 kg CO2 per metre
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
