Which grid emission factor do BEE's old project reports use for the CO2 saved?
None is named, so divide. In the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Bangalore reports, kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO2) per kilowatt hour (kWh) works out to 0.74 for wire cut and 0.82 for bending. Alwar oil mill reports give 0.81 and 0.91. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) factor for 2025-26 is 0.675.
Implied kg of carbon dioxide per kilowatt hour in each report
- computer numerical control (CNC) wire cut machine: 58 tonnes over 78,061 kilowatt hours (kWh) = 0.743 kg a kWh
- CNC bending machine: 58.51 tonnes over (975 less 663.33) x 228.375 = 71,178 kWh = 0.822
- Alwar screw compressor (116 cubic feet per minute): 38.49 tonnes over 47,520 kWh = 0.810
- Alwar compressor drive: 10.4 tonnes over 11,460 kWh = 0.908
How these were worked out
The reports do not print the factor. Each ratio is the report's carbon dioxide (CO2) figure divided by the kWh in the same report. The bending report prints no yearly kWh, so its kWh is its per tonne saving times its assumed output.
What to do with an old figure
Take the kWh into your own file and apply the factor for the year of the bill. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) factor is 0.675 for financial year (FY) 2025-26 and 0.710 for FY 2024-25. An old report at 0.81 overstates today's saving by about 20%.
Alwar screw compressor, two factors
- Report: 47,520 kWh x 0.810 = 38.49 tonnes CO2 a year
- FY 2025-26 factor: 47,520 x 0.675 = 32.1 tonnes CO2 a year
Reported figures from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) project reports; the 0.675 is the CEA version 22.0 factor, an estimate for the saving today.
What Senseible does here
Senseible applies the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) factor for the financial year on each electricity bill and keeps the factor and its version with the figure, so each record carries its own factor and version. The green loan check shows what a lender asks for.
