What does a buyer report about sustainability training for its suppliers in BRSR?

Principle 1 leadership indicator 1 asks a listed company how many awareness programmes it ran for value chain partners in the year, which principles they covered, and what share of partners attended, measured by value of business done with them. Your attendance moves your buyer's percentage.

The three columns

Why the share is by value

A buyer with 400 suppliers, where 20 account for 70% of purchases, can report a high share by training those 20. So bigger suppliers are invited first, and a missed session by a large supplier shows in the buyer's figure. This is a different question from essential indicator 1, which covers the buyer's own board, managers, employees and workers.

What to keep after a session

  1. The invitation and agenda.
  2. An attendance record or certificate with your company's name.
  3. Which of the nine principles it covered, for example Principle 6 on environment.
  4. What you changed afterwards, such as starting monthly energy records.

Make the session pay for you

These sessions are usually where a buyer's next data request starts. Ask what figures they will want, in which units and by when. Knowing that early costs less than rebuilding a year of records later.

How your attendance counts

Figures invented to show the arithmetic.

What Senseible does here

If the session ends with a request for your energy and emissions figures, Senseible turns your electricity bills and fuel invoices into the Scope 1 and 2 records and evidence a buyer asks for.
