Our buyer wants the emissions of the raw materials we buy. Where do we start?
List your raw materials by tonnes bought in a year. Ask your top suppliers for a figure per tonne; for the rest, use a published database factor and label it as secondary data. Multiply each by tonnes. This is your Scope 3 purchased goods, and the buyer sees it inside your product figure.
Steps
- Rank materials by tonnes and spend.
- Request supplier figures for the top few.
- Use database factors for the rest, with the source named.
- Add up by product using your bill of materials.
Be clear
Tell the buyer which share uses supplier data and which uses database factors. Buyers increasingly ask for that split.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
