Can a supplier charge its buyer for preparing carbon data?
You can, but most suppliers treat it as part of serving the account because the same data serves every buyer. Charging makes sense for buyer-specific work: a product footprint to their method, a custom questionnaire or their chosen verifier. Agree it before you start, not after.
Usually included
- Annual Scope 1 and 2 totals.
- A standard product carbon figure you already have.
Reasonable to charge
- A footprint to a method only that buyer uses.
- Data in a paid portal or format you would not use otherwise.
- A verification only that buyer requires.
What Senseible does here
Senseible keeps each figure behind a claim traceable to the invoices and bills it came from, so a reader can check the number rather than take the wording on trust.
