Can a cement plant work out clinker output from cement deliveries for CBAM?

Yes. If you cannot weigh clinker directly, a stock-adjusted balance from cement deliveries is allowed, using your clinker to cement ratio. Process emissions then use a standard 0.525 t CO2 per tonne of clinker unless you analyse it. The two process methods are treated as equivalent, so pick the more reliable one.

Method B inputs

Method B is the output-based method. Clinker produced equals (cement delivered minus cement stock change) x clinker to cement ratio, minus clinker supplied to you, plus clinker you dispatched, minus clinker stock change. Direct weighing of clinker is the first choice if technically feasible.

Factors

Method A or B

Method A uses the carbonate content of process inputs, with an adjustment for discarded cement kiln dust or bypass dust. Method B uses clinker output. They are treated as equivalent, so choose the one that gives more reliable data, suits your equipment and avoids unreasonable costs.

Clinker to cement ratio

Made-to-order blends

For cement sold in custom compositions, you must issue a declaration of clinker content for each consignment, and that consignment's clinker content goes into the calculation.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads dispatch invoices and fuel and power bills into dated, fingerprinted records, which supports the delivery and energy lines of this balance. Clinker stock counts come from your plant records.
