Are alloy steel bars, sections and wire under CN 7224 to 7229 covered by CBAM?

Yes. Other alloy steel, from semi-finished (7224) through flat products (7225, 7226), bars and rods (7227, 7228) to wire (7229), is covered under the Chapter 72 line. Direct emissions only. Forging and auto-component suppliers ship a lot of 7228.

Is it covered?

Yes. Every heading from 7224 to 7229 sits inside Chapter 72. Grain-oriented electrical steel falls under 7225 and 7226 and is also covered. Forged parts made from these bars usually leave Chapter 72, so check the final code.

Precursors to report

Default value

The Commission sets default values by CN code and country of origin in the annex to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2621, with a mark-up that rises over the first years. We do not quote the figure here. Open the annex, find your code and India, and treat it as the number your buyer pays on if you send nothing usable.

What to send your EU importer

The common mistake

Treating every ferro-alloy as a precursor. Only 7202 1 (FeMn), 7202 4 (FeCr) and 7202 6 (FeNi) are covered. Others such as SiMn, FeSi and FeMo add no precursor emissions, so you do not need supplier figures for them.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and purchase invoices into dated, fingerprinted installation records, the starting point for the actual emissions an EU importer asks for. It does not file CBAM declarations or verify emissions.
