What CBAM default value applies to stainless steel flanges and pipe fittings from India?

Indian stainless steel flanges, elbows, butt-welding and other fittings under CN 7307 21 to 7307 29 carry a CBAM default of 4.810 t CO2e per tonne. Non-stainless forged flanges and fittings, 7307 91 to 7307 99, carry 4.280. Direct emissions only, before the 10% mark-up for 2026.

India default values, t CO2e per tonne

Mark-up on top

Default values are raised by a mark-up: 10% in 2026, 20% in 2027 and 30% from 2028. The same mark-up applies when a default is used for a precursor such as bar.

The trap: a fitting default below the bar default

Indian stainless bar under 7222 carries 6.480, more than the 4.810 for the fitting made from it. If your bar supplier gives you no actual figure, its default goes into your calculation and your actual value can come out above the fitting default. In that case your buyer can simply use the default. An actual figure only pays off when the bar mill gives you its own.

What to ask your bar or forging stock supplier

Verified embedded emissions per tonne, the mill and installation name, and the heat numbers that tie the figure to the bar you used. Without it, compare both routes before you promise a buyer a lower number.

Example: one tonne of stainless flanges, 2026

Example yield. With a verified bar figure from the mill, rerun the first line.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads coal, coke, gas, electricity and freight invoices into a dated record per site, so an actual figure you send an EU buyer traces back to the documents behind it. We build it from your records, check every figure in-house, and an accredited verifier we partner with signs it off. Have your own verifier? Send it to them.
